The Full Moon is a time for magic dealing with increasing psychic and intuitive abilities, creativity, fertility, and a powerful time for transformation. This month, the Full Moon falls on September 8, and it is an especially powerful full moon.
It is the Harvest Moon, also called the Barley Moon or the Full Corn Moon, but not just any Harvest Moon. It is a Super Harvest Moon, when the moon is closest to the Earth.
It is also the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival. The Chinese call it Mooncake Festival because of the popular mooncakes only available during this time of the year.
As part of my Chinese heritage, I grew up eating mooncakes every Mid-Autumn, and we also celebrated the Harvest Moon by lighting up the garden with candles and lanterns. The whole neighborhood would be lit up with candles and lanterns.
We had unofficial competitions to see who could light the most candles and keep them lit up the longest. The candles were short and small, so they burned out quickly, and the night was breezy so sometimes they blew out. It was a constant game of relighting and replacing the candles.
I have many great childhood memories of the Mid-Autumn festival, and I’m helping to create these memories now for my nieces.
The Mid-Autumn Festival has always been a time of family, friends, and happiness for me, and that is in itself, a powerful love magic. Now that I’ve learned so much more about moon magic and the different phases of the moon, this year, the Mid-Autumn Festival with take on an even more special significance for me.
It is a Full Moon, a Supermoon, and the Harvest Moon, all at once. Psychic and intuitive abilities will be stronger during this time, and I will be taking advantage of that with my readings, my spells, and my rituals.
Happy Super Harvest Moon!
