I have loved Jenna Matlin a long time, so this review might be just a little bit biased, but to be fair, I started loving Jenna because of the gems she shares in this book and how much they helped me when I first started out as a professional tarot reader.
I was a relatively new reader at the time, and although I’d done plenty of one-to-one readings, I’d never done groups, parties, or events. Jenna had a course about doing tarot events, which I enrolled in, and which was incredibly helpful! It was full of practical tips, creative ideas, and stuff I wouldn’t even have thought of as a new reader. It gave me the confidence to offer party/event reading services on my website, and I started booking events pretty quickly!
Have Tarot Will Party has all of what I learned from her course, and more! Jenna shares so much of her own experiences and what she’s learned from the mistakes she’s made – so that we won’t have to make the same mistakes. From how to prepare ourselves as party readers to how to handle difficult clients. She covers very important topics like how to protect ourselves legally with contracts, and how to protect ourselves physically with always letting someone know where we are and reminding us that it is always okay to leave if we don’t feel safe.
I love that she tells us to value our services, price ourselves appropriately, always take logistics into consideration, and make sure that we get paid. There’s also a chapter on “training the host”, with advice about letting your hosts know what to expect, what you need from them, how they can help you make the event a success, and more. I loved this chapter because so much of it were things that would’ve never even occurred to me, but made such a difference when I booked my gigs!
There is so much more in this book – about pacing yourself as a reader, how to manage your readings, the hosts, the seekers, your space, your physical needs, and your energy. She also provides samples of business documents in the appendix of the book – proposal letters, contracts, etc. These were such a huge help for me when I was setting up my event reading services, and made such a difference in professionalism when I started getting corporate clients.
The bottom line is this; if you are doing tarot events, or even remotely thinking of doing tarot events some day, you need this book. Jenna Matlin is the expert, and you will not find a better resource than her on this topic!
